Here's how new car stamp duty is calculated in NSW:
- 3% of the vehicle price (inclusive of GST) up to $45,000, then 5% for every dollar over $45,000.
- As an example; for a new car at cost of $65,000 – stamp duty would be 3 percent of $45,000, then 5 percent of $20,000 – that is, the amount that is above the $45,000 threshold. So the calculation would look like this: $1,350 plus $1,000 equals $2,350.
